وَضَرَبَ اللَّهُ مَثَلًا قَريَةً كانَت ءامِنَةً مُطمَئِنَّةً يَأتيها رِزقُها رَغَدًا مِن كُلِّ مَكانٍ فَكَفَرَت بِأَنعُمِ اللَّهِ فَأَذٰقَهَا اللَّهُ لِباسَ الجوعِ وَالخَوفِ بِما كانوا يَصنَعونَ١١٢
And Allah presents an example: a city which was safe and secure, its provision coming to it in abundance from every location, but it denied the favors of Allah. So Allah made it taste the envelopment of hunger and fear for what they had been doing
وَاصبِر نَفسَكَ مَعَ الَّذينَ يَدعونَ رَبَّهُم بِالغَدوٰةِ وَالعَشِىِّ يُريدونَ وَجهَهُ ۖ وَلا تَعدُ عَيناكَ عَنهُم تُريدُ زينَةَ الحَيوٰةِ الدُّنيا ۖ وَلا تُطِع مَن أَغفَلنا قَلبَهُ عَن ذِكرِنا وَاتَّبَعَ هَوىٰهُ وَكانَ أَمرُهُ فُرُطًا٢٨
And keep yourself patient [by being] with those who call upon their Lord in the morning and the evening, seeking His countenance. And let not your eyes pass beyond them, desiring adornments of the worldly life, and do not obey one whose heart We have made heedless of Our remembrance and who follows his desire and whose affair is ever [in] neglect
وَاضرِب لَهُم مَثَلَ الحَيوٰةِ الدُّنيا كَماءٍ أَنزَلنٰهُ مِنَ السَّماءِ فَاختَلَطَ بِهِ نَباتُ الأَرضِ فَأَصبَحَ هَشيمًا تَذروهُ الرِّيٰحُ ۗ وَكانَ اللَّهُ عَلىٰ كُلِّ شَيءٍ مُقتَدِرًا٤٥
And present to them the example of the life of this world, [its being] like rain which We send down from the sky, and the vegetation of the earth mingles with it and [then] it becomes dry remnants, scattered by the winds. And Allah is ever, over all things, Perfect in Ability
قالَ اهبِطا مِنها جَميعًا ۖ بَعضُكُم لِبَعضٍ عَدُوٌّ ۖ فَإِمّا يَأتِيَنَّكُم مِنّى هُدًى فَمَنِ اتَّبَعَ هُداىَ فَلا يَضِلُّ وَلا يَشقىٰ١٢٣
[Allah] said, "Descend from Paradise - all, [your descendants] being enemies to one another. And if there should come to you guidance from Me - then whoever follows My guidance will neither go astray [in the world] nor suffer [in the Hereafter]
فَأَذاقَهُمُ اللَّهُ الخِزىَ فِى الحَيوٰةِ الدُّنيا ۖ وَلَعَذابُ الءاخِرَةِ أَكبَرُ ۚ لَو كانوا يَعلَمونَ٢٦
So Allah made them taste disgrace in worldly life. But the punishment of the Hereafter is greater, if they only knew
نَحنُ أَولِياؤُكُم فِى الحَيوٰةِ الدُّنيا وَفِى الءاخِرَةِ ۖ وَلَكُم فيها ما تَشتَهى أَنفُسُكُم وَلَكُم فيها ما تَدَّعونَ٣١
We [angels] were your allies in worldly life and [are so] in the Hereafter. And you will have therein whatever your souls desire, and you will have therein whatever you request [or wish]
وَما كانَ لِنَفسٍ أَن تَموتَ إِلّا بِإِذنِ اللَّهِ كِتٰبًا مُؤَجَّلًا ۗ وَمَن يُرِد ثَوابَ الدُّنيا نُؤتِهِ مِنها وَمَن يُرِد ثَوابَ الءاخِرَةِ نُؤتِهِ مِنها ۚ وَسَنَجزِى الشّٰكِرينَ١٤٥
And it is not [possible] for one to die except by permission of Allah at a decree determined. And whoever desires the reward of this world - We will give him thereof; and whoever desires the reward of the Hereafter - We will give him thereof. And we will reward the grateful
فَـٔاتىٰهُمُ اللَّهُ ثَوابَ الدُّنيا وَحُسنَ ثَوابِ الءاخِرَةِ ۗ وَاللَّهُ يُحِبُّ المُحسِنينَ١٤٨
So Allah gave them the reward of this world and the good reward of the Hereafter. And Allah loves the doers of good
مَثَلُ ما يُنفِقونَ فى هٰذِهِ الحَيوٰةِ الدُّنيا كَمَثَلِ ريحٍ فيها صِرٌّ أَصابَت حَرثَ قَومٍ ظَلَموا أَنفُسَهُم فَأَهلَكَتهُ ۚ وَما ظَلَمَهُمُ اللَّهُ وَلٰكِن أَنفُسَهُم يَظلِمونَ١١٧
The example of what they spend in this worldly life is like that of a wind containing frost which strikes the harvest of a people who have wronged themselves and destroys it. And Allah has not wronged them, but they wrong themselves
كَالَّذينَ مِن قَبلِكُم كانوا أَشَدَّ مِنكُم قُوَّةً وَأَكثَرَ أَموٰلًا وَأَولٰدًا فَاستَمتَعوا بِخَلٰقِهِم فَاستَمتَعتُم بِخَلٰقِكُم كَمَا استَمتَعَ الَّذينَ مِن قَبلِكُم بِخَلٰقِهِم وَخُضتُم كَالَّذى خاضوا ۚ أُولٰئِكَ حَبِطَت أَعمٰلُهُم فِى الدُّنيا وَالءاخِرَةِ ۖ وَأُولٰئِكَ هُمُ الخٰسِرونَ٦٩
[You disbelievers are] like those before you; they were stronger than you in power and more abundant in wealth and children. They enjoyed their portion [of worldly enjoyment], and you have enjoyed your portion as those before you enjoyed their portion, and you have engaged [in vanities] like that in which they engaged. [It is] those whose deeds have become worthless in this world and in the Hereafter, and it is they who are the losers
