Quran quotes about forgiveness (Maghfirah) — Allah's mercy, repentance, and starting fresh.
يٰقَومَنا أَجيبوا داعِىَ اللَّهِ وَءامِنوا بِهِ يَغفِر لَكُم مِن ذُنوبِكُم وَيُجِركُم مِن عَذابٍ أَليمٍ٣١
O our people, respond to the Messenger of Allah and believe in him; Allah will forgive for you your sins and protect you from a painful punishment
وَبِالأَسحارِ هُم يَستَغفِرونَ١٨
And in the hours before dawn they would ask forgiveness
يَغفِر لَكُم مِن ذُنوبِكُم وَيُؤَخِّركُم إِلىٰ أَجَلٍ مُسَمًّى ۚ إِنَّ أَجَلَ اللَّهِ إِذا جاءَ لا يُؤَخَّرُ ۖ لَو كُنتُم تَعلَمونَ٤
Allah will forgive you of your sins and delay you for a specified term. Indeed, the time [set by] Allah, when it comes, will not be delayed, if you only knew
فَقُلتُ استَغفِروا رَبَّكُم إِنَّهُ كانَ غَفّارًا١٠
And said, 'Ask forgiveness of your Lord. Indeed, He is ever a Perpetual Forgiver
وَما يَذكُرونَ إِلّا أَن يَشاءَ اللَّهُ ۚ هُوَ أَهلُ التَّقوىٰ وَأَهلُ المَغفِرَةِ٥٦
And they will not remember except that Allah wills. He is worthy of fear and adequate for [granting] forgiveness
۞ قالَت رُسُلُهُم أَفِى اللَّهِ شَكٌّ فاطِرِ السَّمٰوٰتِ وَالأَرضِ ۖ يَدعوكُم لِيَغفِرَ لَكُم مِن ذُنوبِكُم وَيُؤَخِّرَكُم إِلىٰ أَجَلٍ مُسَمًّى ۚ قالوا إِن أَنتُم إِلّا بَشَرٌ مِثلُنا تُريدونَ أَن تَصُدّونا عَمّا كانَ يَعبُدُ ءاباؤُنا فَأتونا بِسُلطٰنٍ مُبينٍ١٠
Their messengers said, "Can there be doubt about Allah, Creator of the heavens and earth? He invites you that He may forgive you of your sins, and He delays your death for a specified term." They said, "You are not but men like us who wish to avert us from what our fathers were worshipping. So bring us a clear authority
عَسىٰ رَبُّكُم أَن يَرحَمَكُم ۚ وَإِن عُدتُم عُدنا ۘ وَجَعَلنا جَهَنَّمَ لِلكٰفِرينَ حَصيرًا٨
[Then Allah said], "It is expected, [if you repent], that your Lord will have mercy upon you. But if you return [to sin], We will return [to punishment]. And We have made Hell, for the disbelievers, a prison-bed
وَما كانَ قَولَهُم إِلّا أَن قالوا رَبَّنَا اغفِر لَنا ذُنوبَنا وَإِسرافَنا فى أَمرِنا وَثَبِّت أَقدامَنا وَانصُرنا عَلَى القَومِ الكٰفِرينَ١٤٧
And their words were not but that they said, "Our Lord, forgive us our sins and the excess [committed] in our affairs and plant firmly our feet and give us victory over the disbelieving people
إِنَّ اللَّهَ لا يَغفِرُ أَن يُشرَكَ بِهِ وَيَغفِرُ ما دونَ ذٰلِكَ لِمَن يَشاءُ ۚ وَمَن يُشرِك بِاللَّهِ فَقَدِ افتَرىٰ إِثمًا عَظيمًا٤٨
Indeed, Allah does not forgive association with Him, but He forgives what is less than that for whom He wills. And he who associates others with Allah has certainly fabricated a tremendous sin
إِلَّا الَّذينَ تابوا وَأَصلَحوا وَاعتَصَموا بِاللَّهِ وَأَخلَصوا دينَهُم لِلَّهِ فَأُولٰئِكَ مَعَ المُؤمِنينَ ۖ وَسَوفَ يُؤتِ اللَّهُ المُؤمِنينَ أَجرًا عَظيمًا١٤٦
Except for those who repent, correct themselves, hold fast to Allah, and are sincere in their religion for Allah, for those will be with the believers. And Allah is going to give the believers a great reward
